Youth Training Program Graduates over 13,000 in Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa, February 19, 2025 (ENA)---The “Youth on-the-Job Training” program, which aims to equip youth with skills and provide employment, has graduated 13,731 youth in Addis Ababa today.
The 3rd round training program targeting 15,000 youths was also launched during the event.
Speaking on the occasion of the 2nd round training program, Addis Ababa City Mayor Adanech Abiebie said efforts will be intensified to ensure the benefits of youths in collaboration with the pertinent bodies.
According to her, the graduated have taken a 6 month practical training at various enterprises, and 99% of them were employed.
The training program has been carried out in all sub-cities of Addis Ababa, she added.
Labor and Skills Minister, Muferihat Kamil, said the program is more than just a way to meet their daily bread for the youth but a launch pad into the future.
In order to ensure equitable access and promote social justice, the government has implemented on-the-job training in 11 cities as part of the Urban Food Security Program for citizens unable to continue their education for various reasons and who have dropped out due to various social problems, in cooperation with the World Bank.
World Bank Country Director, Maryam Salim, on her part said the World Bank will continue to its collaborative support to ensure youth employment opportunities.
The graduates have great benefits in terms of accelerating the country's growth, she noted, adding that the Bank will provide the necessary support to strengthen the program.
The director said, “It is truly inspiring to see the remarkable progress we have made in partnership with government agencies. The program has made a huge difference in enabling young people to work, develop their skills, gain employment opportunities, and improve their productivity.”
