UN Secretary-General Expresses Strong confidence Ethiopia Will be More in the Land of Progress
Addis Ababa, February 14, 2025 (ENA)—“We have strong confidence that Ethiopia will be the land of progress,” UN Secretary-General António Guterres underscored.
Ethiopia’s President Taye Atske Sewlassie conferred with UN Secretary-General and they stressed the need for accelerating cooperation in all aspects between the two sides.
During the discussion, President Taye briefed the UN Chief about Ethiopia’s ongoing endeavors to achieve lasting peace through a nationwide national dialogue and the development activities of the country in various spheres.
The president further explained that Ethiopia has been working hard to realize regional stability, development and integration.
On his part, UN Secretary-General António Guterres recognized Ethiopia’s current role for lasting peace in the region and beyond.
He further reaffirmed the United Nation’s commitment to collaborate with Ethiopia in an effort to address domestic and regional challenges.
The UN has remained steadfast to reinforce the necessary support to Ethiopia and cooperate with the country in all aspects on the international level, Guterres told ENA.
“There is excellent cooperation between Ethiopia and the United Nations. ... .and in my discussion with the President, we looked at all aspects of the cooperation."
Particularly, we discussed development related affairs. We have strong confidence that Ethiopia will be the land of progress”,” he affirmed.
Furthermore, Secretary-General Guterres recognized Ethiopia in its commitment to address domestic problems through peaceful approaches and dialogue.
He praised the progress Ethiopia has been making in the National Dialogue process, in particular.
Ethiopia is working towards realizing the historic national dialogue which is a critical opportunity that will play a significant role in shaping the destiny of the nation with the main objective to create national consensus on critical matters.
The country established a National Dialogue Commission in 2021 with the aim to foster national consensus, strengthen national cohesion, and restore social values through inclusive dialogue.
It is also aimed at laying strong social and political foundations on the basis of which the current problems of the country will be solved in a sustainable manner and ensure lasting peace.
