Prime Minister Abiy Welcomes IMF Managing Director

Addis Ababa, February 8, 2025 (ENA)—Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed underscored that Ethiopia values the IMF’s continued technical and financial support for our economic reform program

The Prime Minister, who has warmly welcomed IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva on the occasion of her visit to Ethiopia, also immensely expressed gratitude for her personal involvement and contributions.

“We value the IMF’s continued technical and financial support for our economic reform program and appreciate immensely your personal involvement and contributions,” the Premier wrote on his social media channels.

Ethiopia’s macroeconomic reform program, which is supported by one of the IMF’s largest financing programs, is based on a Home-Grown Vision and Reform Agenda that clearly articulates our growth and development aspirations, he noted.

 

 “As such, we have strong ownership of the reforms and have been able to undertake bold, comprehensive, and historic measures to address long-standing macro challenges” the Prime Minister Added.

 

 According to the PM, the results of the program so far are positive and very encouraging.

 

He further elaborated that:  “Our on-going implementation will bring macro stability, unleash growth, improve living standards, and help establish Ethiopia as an African Beacon of prosperity.”

 

 

Georgieva, who is embarking on a two-day official visit to Ethiopia, engaged in high-level discussions with Finance Minister Ahmed Shide and other senior government officials earlier today.
