Plastic Formwork Factory Inaugurated

Addis Ababa, February 8, 2025 (ENA) -A plastic formwork factory that saves over 15 million USD annually by manufacturing products locally was inaugurated today.

The factory built with over 1 billion Birr was inaugurated by Industry Minister Melaku Alebel who said that the manufacturing industry is a priority, with efforts underway to improve policy and legal frameworks and to implement various measures.

In this regard, the initiatives by the government are aimed at establishing a solid economic foundation through optimized production and productivity, alongside comprehensive assistance and ongoing monitoring to ensure sector growth and sustainability, he added.

The minister noted that investing in and supporting domestic industries that  produce alternatives to imports is essential for developing a strong and competitive industry capable of supplying international markets.

According to him, the newly inaugurated factory is anticipated to significantly enhance local production and support national policies, contributing to Ethiopia's Green Legacy initiative by replacing wooden and steel form-works with plastic.

CEO and HK Business Group PLC owner, Kasanesh Ayalew, stated that the factory is prepared to produce reusable plastic formwork for both domestic and international markets.

The owner explained that she brought the technology from China after drawing on experiences from developed countries, realizing the construction performance failures due to formwork errors in Ethiopia.

Emphasizing the significance of formwork that comprises 20 to 25 percent of construction costs, particularly in light of the numerous real estate, bridge, and construction projects across the country, she said the factory is poised to meet domestic demands while exporting to neighboring countries.

Plastic formwork is a game-changer in the construction industry, offering numerous benefits in terms of durability, re-usability, and sustainability.
