Ethiopia Purchases 13.4 Million Quintals of Fertilizer for Upcoming Farming Season

Addis Ababa, February 7, 2025 (ENA) - The Ministry of Agriculture has announced the procurement of 13.4 million quintals of fertilizer for the Ethiopian Fiscal Year 2017/18 production season.

State Minister of Agriculture, Sophia Kassa gave a press briefing to the media regarding the fertilizer procurement for the EFY 2017/18 production season.

In her briefing, she explained that the government has given special attention to the development of agriculture sector, which has led to significant achievements.

Sophia stated that one of the issues the government focuses on is the appropriate provision of fertilizer.

She added that the work of transporting the fertilizer for the 2017/18 production season from the Djibouti port to country is being carried out with great dedication.

Although the plan was to procure 24 million quintals of fertilizer for the production season, 13.4 million quintals have already been procured, according to the state minister. 

She also stated that the amount of fertilizer procured is four million quintals more than the supply last year.

Out of the 13.4 million quintals procured, she mentioned that 6.4 million quintals have arrived at the Djibouti port, and currently, over 4 million quintals of fertilizer have entered the country.

She said that alongside the transportation of the fertilizer, the work of distributing it in a way that suits the capacity of the farmers will be carried out.
