Russia Committed To Strengthen Ties with African Countries Based on Principles of Equal Partnership: Andrey Klimov 

Addis Ababa, February 3, 2025 (ENA) Andrey Klimov, Russian Federation Senator and Bureau Member of the Supreme Council of All-Russian political party “United Russia” reiterated Russia's commitment to strengthening relations with African countries, irrespective of political systems of the countries, based on principles of equal partnership and respecting their sovereignty. 

Klimov emphasized the need to further strengthen the party-to-party ties with Prosperity Party (PP) of Ethiopia to bolster bilateral relations and multilateral cooperation between the two countries.    

The Russian Federation Senator was in Addis Ababa to attend the second congress of Ethiopia’s ruling Prosperity Party.

Klimov briefed the media about his visit to Ethiopia at the Russian Science and Culture Center in Addis Ababa today.

He elaborated the cultural and historical ties between the two countries as foundations to boost relations and cooperation.

The delegation of All-Russian political party was invited by President of PP, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to attend the second congress of the party, he said. 

The PP is in the right direction with a clear aim, Klimov observed, indicating the importance of  investing in education and research considering Ethiopia's youth population.

Klimov emphasized the need to strengthen party-to-party relations as a means of bolstering bilateral ties and multilateral cooperation between Ethiopia and Russia.

During the past three days, we had very deep discussions on bilateral issued with the authorities in the PP including its president, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.

In my visit in February 2021, Klimov recalled that the two ruling parties had signed agreement of cooperation.

"We also discussed, within this three days period, perspectives and plans for next period and soon there may be some important events with the Russian participation, including inter-parliamentary affairs and affairs between our political parties and some international inter-party relationship," he added.

Furthermore, he had the opportunity to tour some places of interest in the city and discussed with ruling party officials.

He admired the transformation the country is undergoing since his last visit in February 2021.

"Between my first visit and today’s visit, it is exactly four years period. So I can compare the situation. You have really fantastic transformations in your country...it is incredible transformations in a positive way.”

He reiterated Russia's commitment to strengthening relations with African countries, irrespective of political systems of the countries, based on principles of equal partnership and respecting their sovereignty. 

Russia wants to transfer technology through win-win cooperation of doing business in the countries, he stated.

Fifteen political parties including All-Russian political party “United Russia” participated in the three-day second congress of the Prosperity Party.
