President Taye Tasked Newly Appointed Ambassador to US with Strengthening Friendship

Addis Ababa, January 31, 2025 (ENA) President Taye Atske Silassie tasked the newly appointed Ethiopian Ambassador to US Binalf Andualem, with consolidating a longstanding friendship between the two countries.

The President also urged the ambassador to approach the task with wisdom and tact, stating that Ethiopia’s foreign relations should focus on building strong friendships.

Ambassador Binalf swore an oath today in the presence of President Taye Atske Silassie to protect his country’s national interests and carry out his duties to the best of his abilities.

 

During the ceremony, the President emphasized the importance of serving Ethiopia’s interest. 

He further explained that diplomatic efforts should focus on strengthening the long-term relationship between Ethiopia and friendly countries.

In this respect, President Taye highlighted that the US is home to a large Ethiopian community, and urged Ambassador Binalf to play an active role through engaging the diaspora Ethiopia’s development and growth.

Expressing confidence in the ability of the newly appointed ambassador, Taye stressed the need for maintaining and strengthening diplomatic ties between Ethiopia and the US.

He further emphasized the critical role of ambassadors in safeguarding Ethiopia’s interests through citizen diplomacy, economic engagement, and contributions to peace and security, urging Ambassador Binalf to focus on reinforcing these areas.

 

Minister of Foreign Affairs Gideon Timothiwos for his part revealed that Ethiopia and the United States have maintained diplomatic relations for over 120 years, underscoring the need to continue strengthening this bond.

He also stressed the importance of strong diplomacy in protecting Ethiopia’s national interests and fostering peace and cooperation in the region.

Minister Gideon added that the success of Ethiopia’s political and economic reforms would elevate the cooperation with the US. In this regard, the minister highlighted Ambassador Binalf’s pivotal role in advancing Ethiopia's interest for peace, stability and diaspora engagement.

Ambassador Binalf Andualem, the former Minister of Peace, was appointed Ethiopian ambassador plenipotentiary and extraordinary on 2nd December 2024, it was learned.
