Ethiopia Congratulates Brazil on Assuming BRICS Presidency in 2025

​​​​​Addis Ababa January 3/2025 (ENA)—Ethiopia supports the Brazilian BRICS Presidency’s vision of advancing fair, representative and effective global governance, fostering deeper economic ties and mobilizing climate finance.

In its statement issued in the early hours of this morning, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Ethiopia looks forward to working with the BRICS Presidency in 2025.

Ethiopia also congratulates the Russian Federation for its exemplary stewardship of BRICS in 2024, according to the statement.


Recall that Ethiopia officially became the newest member of the BRICS group of nations in January 2024 with the aim to promote economic growth, development and cooperation among its member countries.

BRICS is an inter-governmental cooperation arrangement consisting of countries, including Ethiopia, Brazil, China, South Africa, Russia, India, the United Arab Emirates, Iran, and Egypt.

The multi-dimensional cooperation within the BRICS bloc has recently  become instrumental in addressing critical topics such as economic growth, trade and finance promotion, global security, and the advancement of health, education, and culture, it was learned.
