PP Achieves Remarkable Progress in Fostering Inclusive Growth, Building Durable Peace in Ethiopia: Vice President & Deputy PM

Addis Ababa December 25/2024 (ENA)— ​​​​Prosperity Party (PP) has achieved remarkable successes in inclusive development and building durable peace as promised to the Ethiopian public, Part Vice President and Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh underscored.

Temesgen noted that peace and development were among the main agenda items discussed at a two-day regular meeting of Prosperity Party’s Executive Committee.

Following the meeting, he indicated that the Prosperity Party-led government has come a long way in building positive peace and a strong as well as inclusive nation state through freeing Ethiopia from the vicious cycle of conflict.

The Deputy Prime Minister who is also the vice president of PP explained that conflicts created by the parties that have not embraced the change have been resolved through negotiation and dialogue.

The government has been demonstrating practical commitment to resolving problems through national consultations, implementing transitional justice and reform activities, Temesgen pointed out.

These efforts would hugely contribute to the country’s development ambition   and positive peace, according to him.

In line with the government's repeated call to armed groups, the Deputy Prime Minister  elaborated that many members of armed groups in Oromia and Amhara regions have opted for peace and are playing a major role in ensuring national security and development.

The Prosperity Party-led government has successfully managed a peaceful relation with neighboring countries over the past years and has never entered into conflict with any country, the vice president indicated.

He added that the party has enabled Ethiopia to have and build strong security institutions that will sustainably maintain the peace and security of the country.

Recalling the party’s promise to implement people-centered multi-sector economic developments during its first congress, Temesgen noted that it has recorded impressive results accordingly.

 For instance, the Deputy Prime Minister mentioned that the government has already delivered on its promise to completely realize wheat imports substitution by increasing productivity in the agricultural sector.  

The country has now also begun wheat exports, Temesgen pointed out.  

Speaking on other success stories in the tourism sector, the Deputy Prime Minister revealed new tourism destinations that have changed the face of Ethiopia through the implementation of mega projects with quality and speed.

He also mentioned the success in reviving the manufacturing sectors of the country where factories were idle previously and the ‘Made in Ethiopian’ movement, the national initiative has hugely helped imported products have been replaced.

Similarly, fundamental changes have been made in the mining sector, he further indicated.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, the party has also embarked on the reform of the civil service sphere by digitizing government services in line with its commitment to improving public service delivery.

He also reiterated his party’s commitment to intensify the achievements in inclusive economic growth, sustainable development and peace by addressing the major bottlenecks that the country has not yet overcome.

The Deputy Prime Minister also affirmed that resolving differences through dialogue and focusing on inclusive development has remained the primary agenda for the Prosperity Party in order to direct Ethiopia to its highest potential.
