Ethiopia, Djibouti to Establish Task Force to Curb Anti-Peace Elements in Border Areas

Addis Ababa December 23/2024 (ENA) —The security institutions of Ethiopia and Djibouti have agreed to establish a joint task force to stop anti-peace forces operating in the border area.
Ethiopia’s National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) and the Security Documentation Service of the Republic of Djibouti agreed to establish a joint task force to stop anti-peace forces operating in the border area, deploy their forces and extraditing of criminals.
According to a press release NISS sent to ENA, this agreement is made in addition to their information exchanges to curb anti-peace forces operating near the borders of the two countries.
A high level delegation, headed by the Director General of the Security Documentation Service of the Republic of Djibouti, Hassen Seid is currently in Ethiopia for an official working visit.
Upon arrival, the delegation was warmly received by the senior leadership of the National Intelligence and Security Service.
The Director General of National Intelligence and Security Service, Ambassador Redwan Hussein and senior officials of the institution held discussions with Djiboutian delegation to help elevate their cooperation in security, intelligence and related fields to a higher level.
According to NISS, issues that can mitigate the common threats of the two countries and help to bring regional stability were the main agenda of the discussion.
The two sides have also agreed to strengthen their cooperation to curb cross-border crimes, especially the illegal trafficking of people and weapons as well as prevent illegal immigrants.
The National Intelligence and Security Service has also indicated that a discussion has been held to address the security challenges observed in Ethiopia's export and import trade through the port of Djibouti.
