Residents in Oromia Region Hold Rallies to Encourage Remaining Militants towards Peace
Addis Ababa December 22/2024 (ENA)— Peaceful demonstrations were held across various areas of the Oromia region to express gratitude to members of the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) who have embraced peace and to urge those remaining to follow suit.
Residents of Southwest Showa, West Showa, East Showa, North Showa, West Guji, and East Welega Zones participated in the rallies, calling for peace for all armed groups.
Rally participants chanted messages such as: "The path of peace is the path to victory for all," "We thank you for answering our call for peace; those of you still in the forest, come to peace," and "The peace agreement is valid and guarantees peace."
Community leaders, including elders and religious figures, actively participated in the rallies, strongly emphasizing the importance of peace.
Demonstrators expressed their willingness to welcome those who have chosen peace and urged remaining militants to contribute to lasting peace and stability in the region.
The rallies aimed to encourage members of the OLA still in the forest to prioritize peace and reconciliation for the well-being of all.
Following the peace agreement between the Oromia regional government and OLA leadership, numerous OLA members have entered government-prepared camps for rehabilitation and training.
High-ranking members of the group are also actively participating in a national consultation forum at the regional level, engaging in constructive discussions with stakeholders to further promote peace and reconciliation.
