Parliament Standing Committee Lauds ENA's Reform Efforts to Protecting National Interest

Addis Ababa December 21/2024 (ENA)—The House of People's Representatives Standing Committee on Democracy Affairs has commended the Ethiopian News Agency (ENA) for its ongoing reform endeavors aimed at fostering its role in protecting and promoting Ethiopia's national interests.
Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Democratic Affairs at the House of People’s Representatives ((HPR), Ewnete Alene expressed strong support for ENA's reform initiatives, which seek to expand its reach, improve its services and content, as an important player in Ethiopia’s media landscape.
The Chairperson has also reaffirmed the unwavering support of the House that would enable ENA to bolster its role in safeguarding and advancing national interests.
The Committee convened in Adama to discuss ENA's reform initiatives, where members were briefed on the progress of these efforts.
Both MPs Chairman, Ewnete Alene and Deputy Chairman Azmeraw Andemo led discussions during the event, focusing on the critical relationship between democratic institutions, the media, and diplomacy.
Ewnete emphasized the pivotal role of democratic institutions in fostering a democratic system, highlighting the importance of collaboration and mutual support among these institutions to achieve national goals and large-scale initiatives.
He underscored Ethiopian News Agency's positive contribution by helping to shape a shared national narrative and cultivate national consensus.
The two parliamentarians emphasized the paramount importance of respecting national interests, safeguarding citizens' rights, and prioritizing good governance.
Ewnete specifically commended ENA's reform efforts, urging the agency to continue expanding its work to safeguard and promote the national interest.
On his part, Azmeraw underscored the critical role of mass media in driving national change by enhancing skills, raising awareness, and offering diverse perspectives.
He urged ENA to further strengthen the nation's policy and strategy framework, particularly by enhancing diplomatic content that aligns with and advances Ethiopia's national interests.
Ethiopian News Agency Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Seife Derbe outlined the agency's focus on building national consensus and enhancing Ethiopia's image at the global arena.
Seife highlighted the ongoing improvements within ENA, aimed at enabling the agency to fulfill its mission more effectively.
Efforts to improve and strengthen the working environment of the Agency are also underway.
The committee members expressed their continued support for ENA's efforts to expand its reach, both domestically and internationally. They also emphasized the importance of ongoing efforts to build national consensus and promote Ethiopia's positive image on the global stage.
