Ethiopia Bolstering Cooperation with Tanzania in Tourism, other Spheres

Addis Ababa December 20/2024 (ENA)— Ethiopia is working to further elevate the longstanding cooperation with Tanzania in Tourism and other sectors, Ethiopia’s Ambassador to Tanzania Fekadu Beyene said.

Approached by ENA, Ambassador Fekadu affirmed that the two countries’ relation has been heightening in political, economic, social and other spheres.

The first Ethio-Tanzania joint Ministerial Commission meeting held in Addis Ababa recently has been instrumental to further elevate the two countries’ relations.

On the economic sphere, he said Ethiopian Airlines is making 49 flights per week to three cities of Tanzania which is playing a significant role to promote the country's tourism.

Stating that tourism is one of the five pillars of the economy that Ethiopia has prioritized, he recalled the immense initiatives undertaken by the government including the building of parks and developing destinations.

Tanzania is one of the African countries with the highest annual tourism flow which accounts for 17 percent of the country's GDP, he said, adding the two countries are working closely to further boost mutual benefit by sharing their experiences in the sector.

He also highlighted the significant endeavors being undertaken in trade, agriculture and other sectors to reinforce economic diplomacy between the two countries.

As part of Ethiopia’s target to realize regional integration through energy, the country is working with Tanzania based on the framework agreement

In this regard, the preparatory work to sell 100 megawatts of electric power to Tanzania is being completed and it will contribute significantly to the connectivity of the region, he said

During the first Ethio-Tanzania Joint Ministerial Commission meeting which was held in Addis Ababa recently, the two sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding to cooperate on trade, industry, aviation, migration, and tourism, it was learned.
