Commitment to Quality Cornerstone for Ethiopia's Global Competitiveness: Says President Taye

Addis Ababa December 15/2024 (ENA)—President Taye Atskeselassie emphasized that Ethiopia's commitment to quality is a cornerstone for modernization, prosperity, and achieving global competitiveness.

The 11th National Quality Award program, which recognized outstanding manufacturing and service-providing institutions, took place last evening at the Grand Palace.

The event was attended by President Taye Atskeselassie, Ethiopian Quality Award Organization CEO Tewodros Mebrat, Addis Ababa University Acting President and Ethiopian Quality Award Organization Board Chairperson Samuel Kifle, along with other high-ranking government officials and invited guests.

In his remarks, President Taye emphasized that Ethiopia's journey towards modernization and development is fundamentally anchored in the quality of its products and services.

The President stressed the necessity for Ethiopia's manufacturing and service-providing institutions to adhere to appropriate quality standards.

He highlighted that adhering to and improving quality standards is essential for enhancing the quality of life and achieving the country’s development goals.

The president pointed out that Ethiopia’s path towards development and global competitiveness is closely linked to sustainable quality improvement.


 

Furthermore, the President stated that adhering to quality standards in production and service delivery would enable manufacturing and service-providing institutions to successfully compete in the global market, underscoring the importance of quality in both sectors.

“Quality is the main criterion for our competitiveness,” President Taye stated, urging institutions to focus on maintaining high standards as they strive for success in the global market.

He emphasized that winning quality awards based on international standards showcases the capability of Ethiopian businesses and their commitment to sustainable quality improvement.

In light of globalization, President Taye underscored that quality is becoming increasingly crucial in the global economic landscape. “Countries that prioritize quality will advance, while those that neglect it will lag behind,” he observed 

The President also highlighted the government's active collaboration with manufacturing and service institutions to establish a robust quality infrastructure, which is essential for both national and global competitiveness.

“Ethiopia aims to be a model for development and prosperity in Africa,” he remarked, reiterating the importance for institutions to meet quality standards in order to fulfill the nation’s aspirations.


 

Acting President of the Addis Ababa University and Ethiopian Quality Award Organization Board Chairperson, Samuel Kifle, on his part, emphasized that quality must become the working culture of the Ethiopian people, as it is the foundation of development and prosperity.

He further stated that investing in quality offers long-term benefits for manufacturing and service institutions. He highlighted that the Ethiopian Quality Award Organization applies global quality standards to recognize institutions committed to excellence.

Founded in 2008, the Ethiopian Quality Award Organization aims to foster a culture of quality across all sectors, ultimately benefiting the Ethiopian public and contributing to the nation’s development.
