Stakeholders Discus on Talent Cloud to Shape Future of Gig Economy in Africa

Addis Ababa December 12/2024 (ENA)—Talent Cloud meeting was held in Addis Ababa with the aim of shaping the future of the gig economy in Africa.
The meeting discussed on the significance of the sector and the attention required to support entrepreneurs interested to engage in it.
Local and international organizations including Gebeya, the United Nations International Trade Centre (ITC), the Ministry of Labor and Skills, and the Netherlands Trust Fund (NTF V) organized the event.

Addressing the meeting, State Minister of Labor and Skills Solomon Soka said that various activities are being carried out to create maximum job creations through the gig economy.
According to the state minister, citizens who are interested in engaging in the gig economy need to be encouraged and supported through legal frameworks and working system.
Developing skills for the youth to enable them create maxima job creations in the sector, the state minister recalled the 5 million coders that Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed launched for the benefits of the youth.
CEO of Gebeya, Amadou Daffe on his part said the submit underscores our commitment to empowering African talent though technology, policy support and innovation.
The sector is connecting billions of African youths he said, stressing the need for giving particular attention to the sector and benefit the youth.
The UN International Trade Centre (ITC) Ethiopia Coordinator Samuel Fekade on his part said the gig economy is a platform that enables youths to economically benefit by expanding their knowledge and skills.
