Chinese Companies Express Strong Interest in Purchasing Ethiopian Coffee

Addis Ababa December 9/2024 (ENA Chinese companies have shown a growing interest in purchasing Ethiopian coffee in large quantities, reflecting the increasing popularity of Ethiopian coffee in the Chinese market.
The Director General of Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority, Adugna Debela, held discussions with a delegation from the China-Africa Economic and Trade Cooperation Secretariat.
During the meeting, the Chinese delegation said that Chinese companies are keen to expand their role in Ethiopia’s coffee trade sector.
They also announced plans to increase their coffee imports from Ethiopia to 100,000 to 150,000 tons by 2025.
According to the delegation, several international organizations are also collaborating with China to facilitate this expansion.
Ethiopia’s Coffee and Tea Authority emphasized that China was among the top 10 buyers of Ethiopian coffee last year, and this demand has only increased over time.
This Ethiopian year, Ethiopian exporters aim to ship 100 million tons of coffee to China, demonstrating Ethiopia’s commitment to meet the rising demand in the Chinese market.
Officials have noted a significant rise in the popularity of Ethiopian coffee among Chinese consumers, particularly among the younger generation, who are increasingly embracing coffee culture.
In light of this growing interest, Chinese companies have not only intensified their coffee purchases but are also actively promoting Ethiopian coffee in the Chinese market.
This move is expected to strengthen trade relations between Ethiopia and China while boosting Ethiopia’s coffee export revenue.
Ethiopian authorities have highlighted the need to capitalize on this growing demand by fostering stronger partnerships with Chinese companies and ensuring a steady supply of high-quality coffee to meet the needs of the expanding Chinese market.
