Danish Minister Lauds Ethiopia's Recent Series of Reforms

Addis Ababa December 7/2024 (ENA)—The Finance Minister of Denmark commended Ethiopia's recent series of reforms, acknowledging the overall progress as a testament to the well-prepared and carefully planned program.

The Minister of Finance Ahmed Shide, welcomed Nicolai Wammen, Minister of Finance of the Kingdom of Denmark, today, according to the ministry of Finance.

Ahmed extended a warm welcome to the Danish delegation and expressed gratitude for Denmark’s continued support in agriculture, food security, livelihood improvement, governance, and democratic participation—areas that align closely with Ethiopia's development priorities.

He also commended Denmark’s significant contributions to climate resilience, mitigation, and adaptation initiatives.

Furthermore, he emphasized the need to scale up collaboration on sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, and green legacy programs.

Ahmed highlighted Ethiopia's Homegrown Economic Reform (HGER) Agenda and the country’s bold reforms aimed at addressing macroeconomic imbalances, restoring external debt sustainability, and fostering inclusive, private sector-led growth.


He underscored the need for increased support in terms of volume and scale, particularly for transformative projects such as the Assela Wind Farm Project, which is financed through Danida Sustainable Infrastructure Finance (DSIF)—Denmark’s primary aid mechanism for large-scale infrastructure projects in developing countries.

Ahmed further emphasized Ethiopia’s strategic role in maintaining regional peace and security, as well as its efforts under the Horn of Africa Initiative to promote regional connectivity—both physical and digital—and major social and economic programs.

He invited the Danish government to join these initiatives and expressed appreciation for Denmark's consistent support and the significance of the minister’s visit.

Danish Finance Minister Nicolai Wammen for his part commended Ethiopia's recent series of reforms, acknowledging the overall progress as a testament to the well-prepared and carefully planned program.

He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to supporting Ethiopia's reform agenda.

Additionally, the Danish Ambassador to Ethiopia announced the launch of a new Country Framework Program aimed at supporting the Productive Safety Net Program, climate initiatives, agriculture and food security, clean energy and opportunities for engaging the Danish private sector in Ethiopia.

Both parties agreed to strengthen collaboration on projects that benefit the Ethiopian people and pledged to maintain close communication to ensure the successful implementation of agreed initiatives, it was indicated
