Peace Accord between Oromia Regional Gov’t, Senior Leader of OLA Foundation for Lasting Peace

Addis Ababa December 6/2024 (ENA)—The peace agreement signed between Oromia regional state and the senior leader Oromo of Liberation Army (OLA) is a good foundation to ensure durable peace in the region, Inter-Religious Council of Oromia Region said.
Recall that Oromia Regional State President, Shimelis Abdisa and Segni Negassa, former leader of the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) have recently signed peace agreement to ensure lasting peace.
Following the peace agreement, Archbishop of Sheger City and South West Shewa Diocese of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church and Chairperson of the Oromia Inter-Religious Council Board Abune Sawiros, and President of Oromia Islamic Affairs Supreme Council and Deputy Board Chairperson of the Oromia Inter-religious Council Ustaz Gali Muktar gave a press briefing today.
During the briefing, the religious fathers praised the peace agreement which has brought togetherness and laid a good foundation for durable peace.
Stating that the peace agreement is a great relief especially for the communities in Oromia, the religious fathers further stressed that everyone should work with determination for its sustainability.
The peace agreement has followed a civilized alternative instead of taking arms; hence, it is commendable and encouraging; and it must be supported by everyone, they underscored.
Recalling its repeated call for reconciliation and peace, the council reaffirmed its readiness to continue playing a crucial role to ensure lasting peace.
Noting that the issue of peace is the base of everything, the Inter-religious Council stressed the need for working together to ensure lasting peace.
