Continental Conference on Peace, Prosperity Successfully Concluded

Addis Ababa November 27/2024 (ENA) Minister of Peace Binalf Andualem described the continental peace conference held in Addis Ababa as successful.
Binalf hailed the continental conference as a significant platform for showcasing transformative reforms in Ethiopia.
The minister elaborated that the continental gathering brought together hundreds of participants, including ministers, key policy makers, delegates and representatives of international organizations from 22 countries.
“The conference brought together distinguished guests, including representatives from the UN agencies, the African Union (AU), and various countries. This made it a resounding success. Participants also toured key Ethiopian government institutions, gaining insights into the country’s transformative journey. They observed the ongoing reforms and how Addis Ababa, and Ethiopia at large, are evolving. Furthermore, they had the opportunity to reflect on the future impact of our reforms and provided extensive feedback. In summary, this conference achieved its intended purpose and was highly successful.”
He described the conference as a successful forum, fostering extensive dialogue aimed at ensuring lasting peace and prosperity across Africa.
This initiative helped Ethiopia solidify its role as a leader in regional peace efforts, he added.
In addition to high-level discussions, participants visited Ethiopia's key peace and security institutions, allowing them to witness firsthand outcomes of the country’s comprehensive reforms, he said.
He emphasized that the conference effectively highlighted the profound achievements brought about by ongoing reforms.
The continental peace conference also dedicated significant time to addressing issues surrounding border security, conflict prevention, and management of illegal activities.
Binalf also stated: “We have engaged in extensive discussions with neighboring countries regarding maintaining peace and security along our shared borders. We explored collaborative strategies for information sharing to address illegal activities effectively. For instance, we have discussed joint measures to combat illicit arms trafficking, human trafficking, and other unlawful operations. This conference provided a crucial platform for in-depth dialogue on how to collectively resolve or at least minimize these challenges. Additionally, bilateral discussions were held with some countries to strengthen our ties.”
Furthermore, the discussions were also linked with on how Agenda 2063 can be translated into practical steps, charting a path for Africa’s sustainable future.
Participants commended Ethiopia’s proactive measures in peace building, acknowledging the country’s leadership in establishing robust security institutions that serve as a foundation for enduring peace across the continent.
The minister affirmed Ethiopia’s commitment to hosting the conference annually, demonstrating its unwavering leadership on continental and regional issues.
The consensus among the participants was that Ethiopia was a model for its peace and security institutions, setting a precedent for Africa’s collective security and prosperity move forward, he elaborated.
