Prosperity Party Ushering Massive Reforms to Ensure Ethiopia’s Renaissance: PM Abiy

Addis Ababa November 26/2024 (ENA)-Prosperity Party President and Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed stated that the founding of the ruling Prosperity Party has ushered a new era in the history of modern political parties in Ethiopia.

The prime minister conveyed a message in connection with 5th anniversary of Prosperity Party(PP) being celebrated under the theme “Transformation and its Fruits.”

In his message he shared on his social media channels, Abiy highlighted the national reform program that was launched by the massive pressure from the public and with effective facilitation of the  party.

As a result of the reform, Abiy reflected on what Ethiopia has experienced over the past five years,  mentioning achievements made, challenges encountered, and lessons drawn. 

“The reform which is transitioned from the first phase of the ideas of reform program was have been manifested in both words and actions. As the challenges of the reform were vividly impersonated by its opponents, the public remained aware of their desires and continued to struggle against their vile desires,” the prime minister recalled.

This in turn has created an opportunity to collect the fruits of the reforms and defeat the challenges, he pointed out.

Moreover, he stated the demands that have been forwarded by citizens over the last six years  have been addressed, translating the words into tangible results, he indicated.

According to him, these actions brought forth not only changes in policies, legal frameworks and leadership styles but also ushered in cultural reforms. The reform program resolved past shortfalls, retained present achievements and charted out a pathway for Ethiopia’s future development. 

“At this historical juncture on which the Prosperity Party is leading the country, it is marking its 5th anniversary of foundation. And it would be pertinent to probe into some of the salient features of the achievements registered over the past five years.”

As the PP ushered a new era in the modern political history of the parties in the country, political parties have helped to promote the political consciousness of the citizens; generating introduced new trends in restructuring the party politics of the country, the prime minister underscored.

The parties were also instrumental in shaping the form and content of political demands among the citizenry.

On the other hand, political parties have  mixed peaceful struggle with armed struggle, with  ramifications of hate politics, ethnic and ideological profiling, stifling our normal political pathway.

However, Abiy underlined that PP has been mending old political fractures and tried to build up on  positive political assets in the country.  This indeed is one of the fruits of the national reform program.

The foundation of Prosperity Party eliminated the political configuration between center and periphery, the major party and partners, the farmers and pastoralists, the revolutionaries and the reactionary as well as the enemies and friends, replacing them with the concept of supremacy of  ideas and concepts. 

He further emphasized the need to consolidate progress, address shortcomings, and correct past mistakes to guarantee the success of Ethiopia’s transformation journey.

Reflecting on recent reforms in various spheres like politics, economy and culture, the premier revealed that the activities have been laying a foundation for national unity, peace and development.

In this regard, Prime Minister Abiy called on PP leaders, members, allied political parties, and the Ethiopian people in general to exert a collective effort to ensure Ethiopian renaissance, underscoring  this era as the striking period in the country’s rebirth. 

Abiy also stressed the need for maximizing endeavors since the transformation requires resilience, determination, and active participation from all citizens.
