Addis Ababa Successfully Hosts Over 30 Int’l Conferences in First Quarter of Fiscal Year

Addis Ababa November 14/2024 (ENA)-Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed that Ethiopia successfully hosted more than 30 international conferences in Addis Ababa in the first quarter of this fiscal year alone.

Spokesperson of the Ministry, Ambassador Nebiat Getachew briefed journalists today on the latest diplomatic developments, including updates on conference tourism, economic and citizen diplomacy. 

Addis Ababa, the vibrant capital of Ethiopia, continues to solidify its position as a prominent hub for conference tourism, Nebiat underscored.  

Ethiopia has successfully hosted more than 30 international conferences and meetings in Addis Ababa during the first quarter of this fiscal year, the Spokesperson revealed. 

Among the notable events held in the city were the World Without Hunger Conference, the 46th CAF Ordinary General Assembly, and the International Inter-Religious Conference, among others,  he elaborated. 

Ambassador Nebiat highlighted that these conferences provide a platform for Ethiopia to showcase its potential, with Addis Ababa demonstrating its role as Africa's diplomatic capital by hosting such high-profile international events. 

Through these gatherings, Ethiopia has been able to share its development achievements, enhancing the country’s tourism revenue and international visibility, he explained. 

In particular, participants in the World Without Hunger Conference discussed the potential for sharing Ethiopia's development experiences, particularly through initiatives like the Green Legacy and the country’s strides toward food self-sufficiency. 

Nebiat emphasized the strategic importance of hosting international conferences in Addis Ababa, highlighting the city’s ongoing infrastructure development and its diplomatic significance on the global stage. 

He also pointed out that the participants of these conferences had the opportunity to visit ongoing development projects in Addis Ababa and other regions of the country. 

Additionally, he mentioned that at the ministerial meeting of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum held in Sochi, Russia, the Ethiopian delegation, led by Foreign Minister Gideon Timotheos, conducted successful diplomatic engagements. 

The spokesperson added that productive consultations were held with counterparts from various African countries, including Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Sergey Lavrov, covering bilateral, regional, and global issues.
