Bangladesh Plans to Expand Investment in Ethiopia: Ambassador  Bodiruzzaman 

 

Addis Ababa November 12/2024 (ENA) Ambassador of Bangladesh to Ethiopia, Sikder Bodiruzzaman underscored that Bangladesh has a plan to expand its investment in Ethiopia particularly in the pharmaceuticals, garment and leather sectors.

 In an exclusive interview with ENA, Bangladesh Ambassador to Ethiopia, Sikder Bodiruzzaman said his country has keen interest to strengthen economic cooperation with Ethiopia as well as promoting people to people interaction between the two nations.

He emphasized his country’s keenness in fostering bilateral cooperation with Ethiopia, highlighting the potential for collaboration between Ethiopia and Bangladesh across various sectors, including business, culture, and tourism.

He elaborated the strengths of Bangladesh in various sectors, including pharmaceuticals, leather, and frozen seafood, presenting these as opportunities for enhancing bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

Bangladesh has already made investments in Ethiopia such as DBL Group garment factory in Tigray region, he added, noting that Bangladesh has also plan to expand its investments in pharmaceuticals, garments, and leather industries in the country.

The ambassador stressed the need to enhance bilateral ties between Ethiopia and Bangladesh, underscoring his country’s huge export basket and very large population who are skilled manpower, many of whom are already contributing to the Ethiopian economy.

“Bangladesh has a plan to expand investment in Ethiopia in the pharmaceuticals, garment and leather sectors. We have huge basket for exports. And also, Bangladesh has a very large population who are skilled manpower; so many of them are working in Ethiopia and they are contributing for the economy of this country (Ethiopia).”

Bodiruzzaman also emphasized the importance of promoting people to people interaction between the two countries as it is a key in fostering relations and cultural exchanges.

In this respect, the recent launch of Ethiopian Airlines’ flight to Dhaka, capital city of Bangladesh, is of paramount importance in promoting cultural exchanges as well as business to business linkages between Ethiopia and Bangladesh, he explained.

He stated that while Ethiopia is a larger nation, Bangladesh boasts unique attractions that can enrich cultural exchanges.

Moreover, Bangladeshis regard Ethiopians as cherished brothers and friends, the ambassador underlined.
