Ethiopia Showcased Agricultural, Industrial, Tourism Achievements to Conference Participants
Addis Ababa November 8/2024 (ENA) Ethiopia has showcased the remarkable achievements gained in agriculture, industry, and conference tourism to participants of the World Without Hunger conference, Industry Minister Melaku Alebel said.
The Minister told ENA that more than 1,400 participants from 116 different countries; of which five were Heads of States, 30 ministers and 30 ambassadors took part in the conference held in Addis Ababa for the last three days.
The conference delved deep in the root causes of hunger and deliberated on the potential innovative remedies to eradicate it, he explained.
Africa is the richest continent and has all it takes to mitigate poverty and eradicate hunger, Melaku stated, and stressed that the conference emphasized the need to strengthen leadership political commitment.
Ethiopia has showcased the achievements registered in different sectors including the summer wheat production initiated by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
“Wheat production, which is one of the significant initiatives that we started. It is known that for many decades we have been importing wheat from abroad despite the potential that we have to produce and ensure food security in the country. We have the water labor potential, which is immense to grow agricultural products to ensure for security …but because of this initiative now we have clearly started feeding our people and trying to export the surplus wheat to neighboring countries. So this is one of the good showcases,” the Minister elaborated.
Similarly, the bounty of basket and the poultry are among the other things that were showcased to the participants.
Furthermore, the conference was fully successfully in highlighting innovative and supportive technology to boost production and productivity of agriculture and eradicate hunger.
Some 100 potential globally known investor pledged to invest in Africa towards improving agriculture through infrastructure, access to finance, provision of training and supplying technology thereby increase production and productivity.
According to him, 11 financial organizations participated in the conference and pledged to support the efforts of poverty reduction and ending hunger in the world.
Through the green legacy initiative, Ethiopia has already planted over 40 billion seedlings in the last four years which are playing significant role in changing the environment and contributing in the efforts of combating poverty reduction initiative.
“The other one is agro-processing industry Park that we built around 3 pilot industry parks; where we have an integrated infrastructure like water, electricity, storage, and the processing plant as well and the training and all the activities that will give additional leverage and support for the smallholder farmers in terms of creating market,” Melaku noted.
Due attention has been given to fostering the country’s conference tourism through improving the service and hospitality sector, he stated, and emphasized that successfully accomplishing such grand event will definitely lure similar venues.
UNIDO Agribusiness and Infrastructure Director, Dejene Tezera said on his part that Ethiopia showcased its best practices of integrated farming.
The visit underscored the commitment to sustainable agribusiness development in the country,” he lauded.
The Union of Arab Banks pledged one trillion USD towards Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), he stated, and pointed out “this commitment is the first from commercial banks and represents monumental step by the private sector towards the achievement of SDG.”
