Ethiopia, UNODC Agree to Jointly Combat Transnational Organized Crimes in Region

Addis Ababa November 7/2024(ENA)- State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mesganu Arga, this morning received at his office the Regional Representative of the United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime (UNODC) for Eastern Africa, Ashita Mittal.

During their discussions, they highlighted the challenges of transnational organized crimes on the region including human trafficking, drug trafficking, trafficking in counterfeit drugs, arms trafficking, contraband trade and money laundering.

The two sides agreed to jointly combat these combined challenges on the livelihood of the people of the Horn of Africa.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mesganu, reiterated the continued commitment of Ethiopian Government agencies to closely work with UNODC to fight the threat of transnational crimes in a coordinated and cooperative manner.

Mittal also stated that, the cooperation between UNODC and Ethiopia enhances not only regional mitigation efforts but also the continent at large. 

She also reassured the State Minister of the Office’s continued capacity building and technical support to Ethiopian institutions in this regard.
