IMF Reaffirms Continued Support to Ethiopia's Sustainable Development Endeavors

Addis Ababa 22/2024 (ENA)The International Monetary Fund (IMF) reaffirmed that it will continue to support Ethiopia's sustainable development and growth on key issues.
A delegation of senior government officials, led by Finance Minister Ahmed Shide, met with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva in Washington, DC.
National Bank Governor Mamo Mehretu, State Minister of Finance Eyob Tekalign, and the Prime Minister's Senior Adviser Teklewold Atnafu participated in the discussion.
In their discussion, they addressed the ongoing homegrown economic reforms in Ethiopia and future cooperation with the IMF.
During the occasion, Ahmed expressed gratitude to the IMF for its significant contributions to Ethiopia's development, particularly in the economic sectors.
He made a presentation about the economic reforms being implemented in the country with a view to strengthen, modernize the economy and achieve comprehensive development.
IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva for her part noted that the homegrown economy and the macroeconomic reforms being implemented under the leadership of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed play a key role in building a comprehensive and robust economy in the country.
The Managing Director added that Ethiopia's economic reforms are yielding tangible results, which the IMF has recognized. She said this success can serve as a model for other countries as well.
She confirmed that the IMF is committed to supporting Ethiopia's transformation efforts, including addressing adjustment costs.
The two sides also agreed to further strengthen their cooperation on issues crucial to Ethiopia's sustainable development and growth.
