Ethiopia Establishes Coastal Guard Police Force to Combat Crimes on Water

Addis Ababa October 20/2024 (ENA)-Ethiopia has organized police force (Coastal Guard) to prevent crimes on water, Federal Police Commissioner General Demelash Gebremichael disclosed.
Federal Police Commissioner General Demelash Gebremichael revealed this at a recognition and award program for police officers and members who achieved better performance in the field of crime prevention in the past Ethiopian Fiscal Year.
The police service on boats is essential to prevent crimes on water, he stated.
Therefore, based on experience and research from developed countries, a police force (Coastal Guard) has been organized to prevent crimes on water, Demelash explained.
Stating that the necessary preparations have been made to start the service starting from army recruitment, the commissioner general promised that it will be operational in a short period of time.
Up on the completion of the construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, it will be possible to protect the tourist destinations with a reliable police force, he mentioned.
On the other hand, he said, it will make it possible to create a competent and competitive police organization for future missions.
Recall that the Federal Police has signed a contract with the Defense Engineering Industry Corporation to build fast police boats.
