Ethiopia Should Bolster Its Efforts to Resolve Sudanese Crisis: Researches

Addis Ababa September 4/2024 (ENA) Researchers conducted on the situation in the horn of Africa indicate that Ethiopia should continue to consolidate its endeavors in resolving the Sudanese crisis through a peaceful manner.

A panel discussion organized by Capacity Building Center of the National Intelligence and Security Services (NISS) in cooperation with the Institute of Foreign Affairs was conducted on a theme entitled “The Implication of the Sudanese Crisis on the Situation in the Region.”

Various research papers were delivered on the panel discussion included the historical scope of the current crisis in Sudan, causes and actors, according to information from NISS.

The research papers also assess the impact of the crisis in Sudan on the situation in the Horn of Africa and Ethiopia, the future trend in the conflict in Sudan, alternatives for peaceful solutions and the relations that Ethiopia and Sudan will have in a post conflict situation.

The panel discussion also disclosed that more than 100 thousand Sudanese citizens were forced to flee their country as refugees.

Ethiopia is one of the countries that are hosting refugees from Sudan by providing them with their basic needs in cooperation with donor agencies and international partners, the research indicated.

The research further disclosed that Ethiopia is hosting the refugees with due regard to the age-old amicable and friendly relations between the peoples of the two countries and the participants on the discussion recommended that Ethiopia should continue to provide basic assistance to the refugees.

He also noted that the problems in Sudan directly affect the situation in Ethiopia and the country should therefore continue to exert more efforts in resolving the conflict in the country in a more sustainable and peaceful manner.
