Addis Corridor Dev't Lays Solid Foundation for Construction of Modern City

Addis Ababa June 11/2024 (ENA)  The ongoing corridor development in Addis Ababa will transform the city's appearance and establish a solid foundation for building a modern city, scholars said.

Recall that while visiting the corridor development from Arat Kilo to Piaza at the beginning of the week, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said that the corridor development is being carried out in accordance with the plan.

He added that the efforts to beautify Addis Ababa, the capital of Africa, and make it comfortable for its residents as well as build a smart city will continue.

According to him, the progress of the corridor development work that commenced three months ago has been carried out smoothly and efficiently.

Scholars told ENA that the ongoing corridor development in the capital has significantly changed the face of the city.

Solomon Tefera, a lecturer and researcher at Ambo University, said that Addis Ababa's landscape was dominated by aged structures that did not adhere to urban planning guidelines, alongside disorganized road infrastructure.

The lecturer stated that this was because the city had a long life and its plan was not revised in a way that suited the times.

"But now I have seen the city being renovated and new development that will change its appearance are taking place," he elaborated.

At present, Addis Ababa is becoming an eye-catching and attractive place to live as well as a tourist destination.

As a result of the corridor development work vehicular and pedestrian roads have been widened and areas that used to be garbage dump sites transformed into entertainment hubs.

Solomon highlighted that the corridor development will elevate the city's reputation and serve as  cornerstone for the construction of a modern urban center.

Gambella Regional Management Institute Head, Achud Batch commented that there is a clear distinction between the old and present Addis Ababa.

Stating that the corridor development work will make Addis Ababa a new flower as its name, and suggested that regions take the lesson to beautify their cities and make them more livable.

Salale University President's Office Head, Eshetu Wondimu said  he has seen comprehensive development works that will facilitate Addis Ababa's transition to a smart city.
