Ethiopian Airlines Resumes Domestic Flight Service to Axum

Addis Ababa, June 9/2024(ENA) Ethiopian Airlines today announced that it has resumed its domestic flight service to Axum town in the Tigray region.
The resumption of flight after a three-year hiatus to Axum, a historical site underscored the federal government’s commitment to maintain infrastructures and provide services following the Pretoria peace agreement.
Recall Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, during his discussion with the community representatives from the Tigray region, affirmed the commitment of the government to ensure the development of the region.
The airport was officially inaugurated today by Getachew Reda , Chief Administrator of Tigray Region Interim Administration, together with the CEO of Ethiopian Airlines Group, Mesfinn Tassew.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Ethiopian Airlines CEO, Mesfin Tasew said 290 million Birr was spent on the renovation of the airport.
The airport has a 250 meter long runway and the terminal can handle 266 passengers at a time, he stated.
Chief Administrator of Tigray Region Interim Administration, Getachew Reda said the on his parat inauguration of the renovated airport and resumption of flight service is the result of peace. Getachew indicated Axum is a city with universal tourist attractions.
He added development works suitable for the people and heritage of Axum will be carried out, he added.
The daily flight schedule set to Axum will be adjusted to increase frequency to meet the demand of customers, it was learned.
Today's inaugural flight was a joyous occasion, witnessed by Ethiopian Airlines leadership, government officials and community representatives from Axum.
The airline has 22 domestic flights in Ethiopia with Axum and Nekemte resuming services.
