More than 370 Million Coffee Trees to Be Planted in Qellem Wollega Zone of Oromia Region This Year

Addis Ababa  June 8/2024 (ENA) More than 370 million coffee trees seedlings are being planted on over 63 hectares of land in Qellem Wollega Zone of Oromia Region.

A delegation led by the Head of the Oromia Agriculture Bureau,,Getu Gemechu visited the agricultural development works in Lalo Qile district in Qellem Wollega zone. 

Qellem Wollega Zone Administrator, Gemechu Gurmesa said the zone has huge potential of coffee production. 

Hence, various activities have been carried out to enhance land coverage and production through various mechanisms. 

Moreover, he recalled more than 197 million coffee trees planted last year. 

This year, 370 million coffee trees are being planted on over 63 hectares of land. 


 

About 2.6 billion coffee seedlings are ready for planting in Oromia region this year, it was indicated.

The delegation has also visited honey production activities in Qellem Wollega Zone.  

The delegation is carrying out a working visit to the four zones of Wollega  to see the agricultural activities.  

Recall Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed addressed a huge rally staged by residents of Wollega drawn from four zones in Nekemte where he told them the government was committed to addressing the various development and social needs of the society. The residents on their part expressed their strong support for the multifaceted efforts being undertaken by the government.
