Farmers in West Wollega Zone of Oromia Region Engaged in Cluster Farming Activities

Addis Ababa, June 7/2024(ENA) Delegation led by the Head of the Oromia Agriculture Bureau,Getu Gemechu visited the agricultural development works in Qondala district of West Wollega, Oromia region. 

The delegation visited maize being sown in clusters in the district.

Over 460,000 hectares of land is being covered with various crops in this cropping season in the district.

West Wollega Zonal Administrator, Solomon Tamiru said the district is suitable for the cultivation of various crops including maize and wheat.

Noting there has been security problems in areas over the past years he said, adding now development works and farming activities have been carried out effectively.

Moreover, he added that the regional state is distributing fertilizers and seeds to the farmers to increase productivity.

The farmers said that they had not been conducting agricultural activities due to security problems in the district in recent years.

However, now they are able to engage in their day to day activities due to the prevailing peace, they elaborated.
