Farmers In East Wollega Zone Engaging in Farming Activities

Addis Ababa  June 5/2024 (ENA) The Farmers in the East Wollega Zone are engaged in farming activities, Zonal Deputy Administrator Gemeda Tefera said.

Recall Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed addressed a huge rally staged by residents of Wollega drawn from four zones in Nekemte where he told them the government was committed to addressing the various development and social needs of the society.The residents on their part expressed their strong support for the multifaceted efforts being undertaken by the government.

East Wollega Zonal Deputy Administrator Gemeda Tefera recalled the zone has experienced security problems over the past few years.

However, the security situation in the area has returned, creating conducive environment for the farmers to pursue their normal activities and engage in their farming activities, he added.

A delegation led by Oromia Regional Agriculture Bureau Head Getu Gemechu launched maize cluster farming in East Wollega Zone and visited agricultural development works in the zone.

Guto Giddaa woreda is one of the areas known for maize production but farmers encountered difficulty in farming their farlands due to security problems.

ENA reporters deployed to the area witnessed that farmers are ploughing their farmlands by tractors.

"Now farmers are returning to their farming activities as peace is prevailing in the zone," Gemeda told ENA reporters.


 

Recalling that many development activities in the zone has been disrupted by security problems, he said that now various development activities in the zone are in full swing.

Investors who halted their investments in agriculture sector have also resumed their works, he added.

Moreover, he added that the Oromia Regional State has also been providing agricultural inputs including fertilizers and select seeds to farmers.

The farmers recalled that they faced challenge due to security problems during their farming activities in past year.

As this season is critical for farming, they said we are working to cover farmlands with various crops.
