PM Abiy Says Made In Ethiopia Movement Brought Real Changes in Utilization of Industrial Potential

Addis Ababa, May 9/2024(ENA)  Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has emphasized the significant impact of the Made in Ethiopia Movement on the country's industrial potential. 

Launched by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed two years ago, the national manufacturing industry movement aims to enhance competitiveness by addressing bottlenecks in a sustainable, integrated, and comprehensive manner.

Today, Prime Minister Abiy inaugurated the Made In Ethiopia Expo at the Millennium Hall in Addis Ababa. 

The Expo showcases the movement's activities and achievements over the past two years. 

During the event, Abiy highlighted the movement's success in reducing imports, with domestic production replacing imported products worth 1.9 billion USD in the past nine months of the current Ethiopian fiscal year.

Abiy emphasized Ethiopia's immense potential for industrial development and recognized the crucial role of the industry as a raw material input. 

He underscored the government's efforts to accelerate agricultural development, particularly in sectors such as wheat, coffee, rice, and tea. 

The Made In Ethiopia  Movement has played a significant role in harnessing the existing potential of the industry sector, contributing to its overall growth, he said.

Furthermore, the premier indicated the need to establish an industrial development framework capable of supporting the productivity witnessed in the agricultural sector. 

The premier also stressed the need to uphold the achievements of the Made In Ethiopia movement by championing local producers and utilizing domestic products.


 

Furthermore, he said manufacturing industries should harness Ethiopia's vast resources, energy, markets, and human capital to maximize outcomes and drive sustainable growth.

The 5-day expo has attracted over 230 industries from various sectors, including leather and leather products, textile and garment, food and beverages, wood and wood products, chemicals, construction, automobiles, machinery, and electronics.
