Addis Ababa ,April 13/2024(ENA) The National Sustainable Energy Development Strategy of Ethiopia, which gives priority to Public-Private Partnership (PPP), will be instrumental in attracting German companies, according to Economic Section Head Rebecca Alt of the German Embassy.

The National Sustainable Energy Development Strategy (N-SEDS) seeks to achieve energy access and social equity, economic growth and competitiveness, energy efficiency and conservation, energy security and resilience and environmental sustainability.

The Economic Section Head at the German Embassy in Ethiopia, Rebecca Alt, told ENA that Ethiopia has abundant renewable energy resources including hydro, solar, geothermal and other areas.

Since Public Private Partnership (PPP) is given high priority in the national sustainable energy development strategy, German companies could be interested to engage in the sector, she said.

''We have huge companies in Germany in the energy sector, and I will make sure that they know about the opportunities here in Ethiopia."

According to her, companies in Germany have been developing projects for smart city, infrastructure, and vehicles, among others.

Germany and Ethiopia are committed to fostering a secure and sustainable supply and utilization of energy in the light of international climate protection efforts.

Both countries recognize the importance of private sector participation in promoting renewable energy and energy efficiency as well as the fundamental role of communication strategies to raise public awareness of energy transition.

State Secretary and Special Envoy for International Climate Action at the Federal Foreign Office of Germany, Jennifer Lee Morgan reaffirmed last July that Germany is supporting Ethiopia’s effort in its energy transitions, including in preserving and developing natural resources in the advent of concerns over climate change, food, and agriculture.

Accordingly, Germany will continue its support to Ethiopia’s efforts in addressing access to modern energy services and reliable and efficient supply of energy to the economy and especially to decentralized and coordinated power generation.

Ethiopia is endowed with various energy resources, namely hydropower, geothermal, solar, wind, biomass, fossil fuel reserves, and biofuels.

The country has abundant renewable energy resources and has the potential to generate over 60,000 megawatts (MW) of electric power from hydroelectric, wind, solar, and geothermal sources.

With the goal to guide actions for a sustainable and inclusive energy future in Ethiopia, the Ministry of Water and Energy launched a National Sustainable Energy Development Strategy of Ethiopia (N-SEDS) 2024-2030 on Friday.
