Peace Minister Says Consolidating Regional Peace, Security Critical to Economic Integration 

Addis Ababa, March 28/2024 (ENA) Bolstering regional peace and security is critical to economic integration, Peace Minister Binalf Andualem noted today. 

In his opening remark to a forum under the theme "Regional Peace and Solidarity for Sustainable Economic Integration", the minister underlined the necessity of building and maintaining peace and stability for successful regional integration.

The panel, which brought together many stakeholders, was hosted by the Ethiopian News Agency (ENA) in partnership with the Ministry of Peace and Ethiopian Electric Power.  

The peace minister said on the occasion that discussions among all stakeholders are essential in bringing regional peace and security to expedite regional economic integration.

 

Highlighting Ethiopia's historical role as a peace mediator and contributor to peacekeeping operations, Binalf pointed out Ethiopia's significant economic and political influence which  position it as a key player in fostering regional stability and integration.

According to him, Ethiopia is a crucial player in regional peace and integration and the role has not only been vital for regional peace and stability but also for internal peace.

The minister finally announced plans to expand similar panel discussions by inviting participants from neighboring countries to further explore pathways towards a more peaceful, economically integrated and prosperous region. 

Ethiopian News Agency (ENA) CEO Seife Deribe revealed on his part the agency’s commitment to facilitating dialogue on critical national and regional issues. 

 

ENA and its partners have been conducting discussions on various issues in regions and Addis Ababa.  

“The aim of the discussions is to create consensus among citizens about the national interest and issues that determine Ethiopia's progress,” the CEO said.

The panelists of today's discussion have explored how peaceful coexistence can foster cultural exchange, collaboration, and infrastructure development across borders.

They also discussed historical and contemporary challenges and opportunities for regional peace and economic integration.
