Addis Becoming Leading Diplomatic Hub: Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Addis Ababa March 21/2024 (ENA) The Ministry of Foreign Affairs disclosed that a number of countries establishing embassies in Addis Ababa have reached 134.
Briefing the media today, the new spokesperson of the ministry, Nebyu Tedla said the interest of countries to open embassies in Addis Ababa is increasing.
He highlighted that 134 countries have their diplomatic missions in Addis Ababa.
The number of African countries that have opened diplomatic missions in Addis Ababa has reached 53, it was indicated.
Thus, this demonstrates that Addis Ababa has become among largest diplomatic hubs in the world, he said, adding efforts will continue to make Addis Ababa a comfortable seat to both the diplomatic community and international organizations.
Moreover, he elaborated that Ethiopia's political, economic and diplomatic ties with European countries are growing solid.
This past week, Swiss Foreign Minister Ignacio Cassis held a productive discussion with his counterpart Minister of Foreign AffairsTaye Atske-Selassie on bilateral, regional, and multilateral issues of mutual interest.
The two countries agreed to build upon consultation to further develop their bilateral cooperation between the two countries and increase the volume of trade, scale up Swiss investment in Ethiopia, Nebyu added.
On the other hand, he noted 17 ambassadors have presented their letters of credentials to the President Sahle-Work Zewde last week.
The Cabo Verde and the Armenia are the newest additions to the ever growing number of diplomatic missions in Addis Ababa.
Finally, he confirmed that Malta's Foreign Minister will come to Addis Ababa for a working visit around the end of the week.
