Wanchi-Dandi Ecotourism Project Transforming Community Lives

Addis Ababa, January 12/2024 (ENA)The youth engaged in the Wanchi-Dandi EcoTourism project development stated that the jobs created due to the construction of the project have changed their life and brightened their future prospects.

The Wanchi-Dandi EcoTourism site is one of the tourism destination projects that Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed announced as part of the "Dine For Ethiopia" project. The premier is slated to launch the site.

In the process of developing the Wanchi-Dandi EcoTourism Village, 8,000 to 12,000 jobs have been created during the construction phase. 

The massive infrastructure has been introduced including 43kms access roads, 35km of road lights and power supply, and a 72mts long crossing bridge.

Among the project's beneficiaries is Milkesa Dugassa. In addition to a job opportunity, the initiative offered him new experiences and knowledge.   

Mentioning about the previous difficulties with roads, Milkesa stated that the construction of the various infrastructures including roads, made the area more beautifully pleasing.  

Aberash Worku, who had been unemployed for about 12 years following her graduation from university, praised the project for the opportunity to work.

The other beneficiaries of the project, Wakuma Desalgne, Nafia Hailu and Addisu Hailemariam expressed their hope that the project would transform communities in the area when fully become operational. 

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said today that youth in the community are seizing the economic benefits of what such large scale development introduces and the communities at large have now greater opportunities. 

The Wonchi-Dendi ecotourism site is built between the lakes of Wonchi and Dendi that are located 13 kilometers apart. 

The landscape around the two lakes and the surrounding area is very attractive and conducive for sports and entertainment.
