Nation to Host Surgeons Examination, Annual Conference

Addis Ababa, December 1 /2023 (ENA)  Ethiopia will host the College of Surgeons of East, Central and Southern Africa (COSECSA) annual conference and examination from 4th to 8th December, 2023.

Briefing the media today, Alert Comprehensive Specialized Hospital CEO Dr. Shimeles Gezahegn, said about 170 medical doctors drawn from the 14 African member countries will take the examination.

Some 324 medical professors drawn from different parts of the world will conduct the examination, it was learned.

The medical doctors sitting for examination are professionals already engaged in work and have taken capacity building training in areas of plastic surgery, general surgery, and neurosurgery, among others. 

According to the CEO, the surgeons for  Botswana, Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe who take the international exam would be certified internationally to get professional acceptance in the member countries and globally.

The examination will precede the conference that will start on Wednesday and continue until Friday.

The conference will create a platform to share experience and discuss about medicine and surgery, Dr. Shimeles added.

The primary objective of the College of Surgeons of East, Central and Southern Africa (COSECSA) is to advance education, training, standards, research and practice in surgical care in the member countries.
