UNECA Expresses Readiness to Work with Ethiopia, Rest of Africa For Betterment of Continent 

Addis Ababa,November 21/2023(ENA)- Foreign Affairs State Minister Mesaganu Arga welcomed the new Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission For Africa (UNECA), Claver Gatete at his office today.

During the meeting,  Ambassador Mesganu said Ethiopia attaches a great importance to what the ECA does and stated that his government wishes a solid presence of the ECA that befits its historical relation with the country and the continent as a whole.


 

Gatete on his part, said that the ECA is there for the socio-economic betterment of Africa and that it will work closely with Ethiopia and the rest of the continent.

The Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary also expressed his hope that the ECA and countries like Ethiopia, find a way to work with International Financial Institutions in debt reduction and Financing for development then scale up to the rest of Africa.

Ambassador Mesganu highlighted the immense potential and resilience of Ethiopia’s economy and his government’s readiness to work with the ECA on promoting Inclusive Global Financial Architecture.

Headquartered in Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa, ECA was established by the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations (UN) in 1958 as one of the UN's five regional commissions.

ECA's mandate is to promote the economic and social development of its member states, foster intra-regional integration, and promote international cooperation for Africa's development.
