Ethiopian Tamrit Movement Main Pillars of Economic Development: DPM and MFA Demeke
Addis Ababa, November 2/2023 (ENA): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Demeke Mekonnen said the Ethiopian Tamrit movement should be taken as the main base for the economic development of the country.
Ethiopia Tamrit (Let Ethiopia Produce) movement is a national effort to create a competitive manufacturing industry by solving the challenges in the sector in a sustainable and comprehensive manner.
A Steering Committee of the Ministry of Industry held discussion today on the achievements and challenges faced by the movement.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister and Chairman of the Steering Committee, Demeke Mekonnen said the movement has solved the problems faced in the sector through coordination and achieved great results.
He, therefore, urged stakeholders to work with greater cooperation and efforts by keeping the movement as the main basis of economic growth.
The leaderships at all levels should work with passion and determination, especially by fighting corruption and corrupt practices in the sector, the chairman stressed.
Moreover, Demeke noted that solving problems related to policies and practices through coordination should continue to be a task that cannot be left for tomorrow.
Adding value to products, modernizing the procurement system and providing quality products for the domestic and international markets should be given attention, the other members of the steering committee stated.
Industry Minister Melaku Alebel said the movement is playing a significant role in substituting imported products.
He revealed that the nation substituted import products worth 350 million USD in the first quarter of the current Ethiopian fiscal year alone.
About 360 industries that had stopped working in the past were given the necessary support and resumed working.
Therefore, the minster urged the leadership to understand the role of the expansion of sustainable development and investment and provide the necessary assistance.
