DPM, FM Demeke, EU Special Envoy Discuss Bilateral & Regional Issues of Mutual Concern 

Addis Ababa, October 04/2023 (ENA) The European Union (EU) Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, Annette Weber, paid a courtesy call to Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Ethiopia, Demeke Mekonnen at his office today.

During the occasion, the two sides deliberated on bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest, according to Ministry of Foreign Affairs. 

The Special Envoy, who lauded her productive engagements with the government in the past few years, said a new foundation is laid for normalization between Ethiopia and the EU. 


 

She also expressed the desire of the EU to assist with ongoing developments in Ethiopia.

Demeke for his part said that Ethiopia attaches special consideration to its ties with the EU, and the government is committed to revamping its cooperation and addressing outstanding issues through dialogue.

He also noted that the implementation of national mechanisms such as the National Dialogue and Transitional Justice are new departures that are promising to address underlining issues in the country.

The European Union (EU) Commissioner for International Partnership, Jutta Urpilainen has also held a two day working visit to Ethiopia during which a 650 million Euros multisector support program for Ethiopia was launched. 

The Commissioner said that the launch of EU's 650 million Euros multisector support program for Ethiopia is a concrete first step towards normalization. 

Upon the completion of her visit today, Urpilainen revealed that her visit to Ethiopia was fruitful.
