1st Annual Regional Conference on Red Sea Dynamics Underway 

Addis Ababa, September 21/2023(ENA) The first annual regional conference on the Red Sea Security Dynamics is underway in Addis Ababa.

The regional consultation, opened today at Sheraton Hotel in the capital, aimed at promoting dialogue and cooperation among countries in the region at a time of global geopolitical entanglements, it was indicated.

As the Red Sea's global importance is rooted largely in its role as a key waterway for trade, the conference is stressing the need for cooperation between countries in the region for mutual benefits.

Moreover, the consultative meeting emphasizes the importance of ensuring security as the Red Sea region is vulnerable to tackle illegal human trafficking, weapons smuggling and other related issues.

The event is organized by Institute of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with Defense War College.  

Research institutions, policy analysts, scholars, ambassadors of various countries among others are participating at the event. 

Significant percent of global trade passes through the Red Sea each year, crossing two of the 10 most strategic waterways, it was stated.
