Activities to Strengthen Relations & Create Partnership with Countries Encouraging: Foreign Affairs State Minister

Addis Ababa August 3/2023(ENA):- Ethiopia’s effort to strengthen bilateral relations with various countries and to create new partnership has brought about encouraging results, according to Foreign Affairs State Minister Misganu Arga.
In a press statement he gave today, the state minister said that the country's foreign relations has improved following the peace agreement between the federal government and TPLF.
According to him, the country has been carrying out activities that strengthen bilateral and multilateral relations.
Consolidating diplomatic relations with friendly countries is underway, he added.
The state minster pointed out that the diplomatic relation started anew especially in the post-war focuses on building lasting peace, rehabilitation and economic cooperation.
Noting that these diplomatic activities have been conducted by high-level senior officials, including the premier, Misganu said, citing as examples the recent visits of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to Egypt, Italy and Russia.
On the other hand, representatives of various international institutions, including President of the World Bank, and foreign ministers have paid official visits to Ethiopia.
Misganu further stated that this has greatly improved the relationship with the US and other European countries.
So, the extensive work done in bilateral and multilateral diplomacy in the last three months has brought concrete results.
Besides the regular diplomatic activity, encouraging result has been registered through the work done to make new friends and partners. This will be strengthened in the future, the state minister added.
A new partnership and cooperation that centers economic diplomacy is also created through the effort exerted to strengthen economic diplomacy with Latin America and Asian countries, Misganu said.
Ethiopia has also intensified its positive contribution to ensure peace and security as well as economic integration in the east Africa region, particularly in Sudan and Somalia, he noted.
The country has especially been exerting extensive diplomatic efforts to end the conflict in Sudan and thwart the activities of Al-Shabab working with neighboring countries.
With regarding to Nile River, the state minister said that a meeting of the basin countries in which the principle of just and equal use of water was successfully conducted in Addis Ababa.
According to Misganu, this will have big contribution in strengthening Ethiopia’s water diplomacy effort, particularly in accelerating the ongoing diplomatic activities to strengthen the Nile Basin Initiative.
Works have also been carried out to promote the Green Legacy and other development initiatives to the international community.
