Ethiopia, African Development Fund Sign 84.3 million USD Grant Agreement

Addis Ababa August 3/2023(ENA):- Ethiopia's Ministry of Finance and the African Development Fund have signed a grant agreement amounting to a total of 84.3 million USD to support Ethiopia's wheat self-sufficiency initiatives.          

The project aims to improve wheat productivity and production thereby increasing the incomes of small-scale wheat farmers in Ethiopia.

It consists of three components, which are Climate Smart Wheat Productivity and Production, Market Infrastructure, Linkages, and Agri-Finance; and Project Coordination and Management, according to Ministry of Finance.

This particular project will support Government wheat self-sufficiency initiatives. The project is designed to be implemented for the next five years.

Minister of Finance, Ahmed Shide and Deputy Director General East African Region, African Development Bank, Abdul Kamara, representing the African Development Fund, signed the agreement.

Of the total grant, 54 million USD is from the African  Development Fund, 20 million USD from the Government of  Netherlands, 10 million  USD from OCP Africa  and 0.3 million USD  from global center for adaptation(GCA) respectively.
