Tigray and South West Ethiopia Regional States Plant Tree Seedlings

Addis Ababa July 17/2023(ENA) Tigray and South West Ethiopia states have planted millions of trees today.
House of People's Representatives Speaker Tagese Chafo, along with senior federal and officials of the Tigray Region's Interim Administration have taken part in the tree seedlings planting campaign launched at Geregera village in Tserah Wonberta Woreda of the region.
Speaking at the event, the speaker said that when we plant tree seedlings today we are planting peace and love with the seedlings.
He noted that the seedlings planted under the Green Legacy Initiative have significant contributions to the growth and development of Ethiopia and emphasized that the seedlings planted should be taken care of well so that they can nurture.
Agriculture State Minister, Eyasu Elias said the protection and development of natural resources enables effective irrigation development.
The state minister added that his ministry will work for the effectiveness of integrated watershed development in the region.
Tigray State Interim Administration Chief Getachew Reda said conservation and development of natural resources in Gergera village of the region, has contributed to making Ethiopia known in the sector internationally.
He pointed out that the society should strengthen and continue the work done in the sector.
Meanwhile, the South West Ethiopia Regional State has planted tree seedlings since this morning.
Speaking on the occasion, Regional State Chief Administrator Tsegaye Mamo said by planting seedlings we are demonstrating our indebtedness to the world that is under threat by the vagaries of climate change.
The seedlings plantation program today was launched in Bosara Kebele of North Bench Woreda in Bench Sheko Zone, where the chief administrator himself planted saplings.
The bold national plan of Ethiopia to plant 500 million saplings in a single day is underway in the region too.
Tsagaye further said that planting saplings means controlling climate change, protecting and increasing soil fertility, and restoring nature.
He also explained that the Green Legacy Initiative is one way of alleviating poverty by ensuring food security and controlling disease.
Regarding tree plantation, the chief administrator said Ethiopia is setting example for the rest of the world.
