Identical Twins Join Campaign to Plant 500 Million Seedlings in Single Day

Addis Ababa July 17/2023(ENA):- Identical twin Edomias Addisu and Yosef Addisu have joined the ambitious tree planting campaign of planting 500 million seedlings in a single day at Kilinto Industrial Park in Addis Ababa.

The ongoing planting campaign started this morning as part of the second round of the national Green Legacy Initiative.

Ethiopians from all walks of life have been taking part in the campaign with the objective of  breaking the 350 million seedlings planting record carried out by Ethiopians in 2019  in a single day.

It is also to be noted that Ethiopia planted about 25 billion seedlings during the past four years.

In this year's planting campaign all segments of the society have been actively participating, among them children. 

The 8 years old twins told ENA that they are planting trees as they believe that trees are vital in  protecting the environment and improving food security of the country. 

The other teenage students Wubrist Alemu and Abush Dugassa have also planted seedlings at the park.

Wubirist said on the occasion that she will continue to contribute her share to realizing the country's goal to green growth.

On his part, Abush said the tree planting initiative will lay foundation for the development of the country and leave a legacy for upcoming generation.

He urged children and youth to provide the necessary care for the planted seedlings.

It’s been four years now since Ethiopia embarked upon a massive tree planting campaign under its Green Legacy Initiative introduced by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
