Nation Gets 787 Million Birr from Coffee Export

Addis Ababa March 17/2023 /ENA/ Ethiopia has earned 787 million Birr from coffee export during the last 8 months, according to Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority.
Even if the price of coffee has declined globally following COVID-19 and the Russia-Ukraine war, the country has registered better performance than that of the same period last fiscal year by expanding its market destination.
Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority Deputy Director-General, Shafi Umer told ENA that coffee trading has declined by 32% globally.
Since Ethiopia has in particular been exporting most of its coffee to Europe, he said, the Russia-Ukraine war has impacted on its export market.
According to him, the government consequently introduced coffee export trade reform and expanded market destinations by taking into consideration the global conditions.
Thus, Ethiopia has been widely sending its coffee produce to new destinations, including the United Arab Emirates, China, and Australia, Shafi added.
As a result, the nation has exported 143,762 tons of coffee and earned 787 million USD during the last 8 months.
