President Kenyata to Attend Ethiopia's Reconciliation Festival

Addis Ababa August 17/2019 Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta said he will be attending Ethiopia's peace and reconciliation festival to be held in September, 2019 in Addis Ababa, accepting Ethiopia’s invitation.

The President confirmed his presence during a discussion held in Nairobi with members of Ethiopia’s National Unity, Reconciliation and Peace Committee. The Ethiopian delegation was headed by former President Mulatu Teshome.

Recalling that Ethiopia's support even during the struggle for independence was memorable, he pledged to attend the event saying “I am going to attend the festival as you Ethiopians.”  

Lauding Ethiopia’s initiative in encouraging peace and reconciliation, President Kenyatta emphasized the need for leaders to leave a legacy of peace and prosperity rather than failure and destruction.

In addition to inviting the President to attend at the event, the Committee has also expressed its desire for Kenya to share its best practice in resolving conflicts.  

In addition to President Uhuru Kenyatta, former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga is also expected to attend the September reconciliation festival.

The national committee, in which its members are drawn from the religious institutions, youth, civic organizations, and business community, was established to following the reform to encourage unity, reconciliation and peace.
