Electricity Rationing for Households Lifted

Addis Ababa July 8/2019 Ministry of Water, Irrigation and Electricity announced that it has improved the rationing of electric power imposed throughout the country due to water shortfall in dams, and fully lifted the shift for household users.

Briefing journalists today, Water, Irrigation and Electricity Minister Sileshi Bekele said the rationing system imposed for one month is fully revised.

Accordingly, large, medium and small industries can now utilize 50 percent of their needs  during day time and full capacity from 11 PM to 5 AM for the next 15 days.

The power usage limitation on the industries will then be revised after the 15 days, he added.

Electricity users are need to use power in wise and proper manner, the minister said, adding that it is better for households to use electricity after 10 PM for high electric consuming facilities.

According to the minister, the energy demand of the country next year is expected to grow by 8.9 percent from the last fiscal year.

He pointed out that the ministry is working to meet the big demand by completing the dams so that they can begin generating electric power, expanding alternative energy sources, and inviting investors to engage in the sector.
