PM Abiy Discusses with President Xi

Addis Ababa April 24/2019 Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday held discussion over a range of bilateral issues and other mutual interests in Beijing.

Premier Abiy is in Beijing to attend the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation which will be held from April 25 to 27 in the capital of China Beijing.

The two leaders discussed on wide range of common concerns ahead of the Belt and Road forum, Office of the Prime Minister disclosed today.

President Xi commended the leadership of Prime Minister Abiy and the ongoing sweeping reform that he has introduced and implemented over the past one year.

China holds Ethiopia’s development in high regard, the President noted. 

President Xi also announced the cancellation of interest on all loans for Ethiopia accumulated till end of 2018.

Moreover, he emphasized that the Chinese government attaches high importance to the beautifying Sheger project and is working on a grant assistance to support the project.

Both parties agreed to a strengthened cooperation between the two countries in various fields.

It was learned that in 2017 China and Ethiopia have promoted their relations to a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, which reflects the high level of bilateral relations and charts the course for the future development of relations between the two countries.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has arrived in Beijing on Tuesday to attend the second Belt and Forum.
